Meet Our Dentists…

Stewart Taylor

General, Cosmetic and Implant Dentistry

The over-riding principle of my dentistry is conserving tooth tissue.

I offer all aspects of general dentistry as well as some of the more complex cases.

Roger Burley and I were in the same class at Dental School in Otago. I returned to Tauranga and have been in practise here since then. After ten years of general dentistry, I studied for and passed a Post Graduate Diploma in restorative dentistry from Otago. I learned restorative procedures on dental implants in 1989 and surgical in 1999 and have completed many hundreds of cases, also some involving guided surgery utilizing data from CT scans.

We have enjoyed living and raising our family in Tauranga taking advantage of all that it has to offer.

General and Cosmetic Dentistry

I follow “The Daughter Test.” I won’t do anything to your teeth that I wouldn’t do to my own daughter’s teeth.

I believe the best approach to modern dentistry is to conservatively preserve your natural teeth.

Minimal reduction is the guiding principle in my dentistry. With modern materials and techniques it is possible to provide lasting restorations with minimal drilling of sound tooth structure.

While I perform most tasks of a general practitioner, my particular interest is in the worn dentition and the conservative restoration of it without the removal of further tooth tissue.

I graduated from Otago Dental School in 1979. After a year as a dental house surgeon at Dunedin Hospital and a further year in private practice in Christchurch, I spent two years in Sevenoaks in England working for a New Zealand dentist.

In 1984 we returned to New Zealand and settled in Tauranga. I purchased my practice in 1985 and have continued to practice here ever since.

Kane Zhao

General and Cosmetic Dentistry

I was born in Beijing and lived in several countries before committing to the good old kiwi life style and moved to “sunny” Dunedin to study. I then graduated as a dentist in 2014. I went on to work in a very busy private practice for 2 years in the heart of New Plymouth. I moved to the Bay in 2017 and started working at TBK Dental now known Tauranga Dental House. Other than work I absolutely love the outdoors, I enjoy tramping, camping, kayak fishing, hunting, scuba diving, fly fishing and the list goes on.

I am fluent in English as well as Mandarin Chinese.

Dentistry is one of my greatest passions. I take pride in the work I do, and at the end of the day patient’s satisfaction is really what drives me to keep improving my skills. I regularly attend national dental conferences and hands on workshops to learn the latest scientifically proven treatment procedures to provide the best treatment for our patients.

I take my time to discuss the treatment options with my patient to make sure we formulate the most suitable, cost effective treatment plan for them. During the dental treatment, I often explain exactly what the next step is to the patient beforehand to avoid any surprises. And at the end of the treatment I often take intraoral pictures to show the finished product and make sure patients are happy with what they have received.

I believe that I have the best job in the world, because I am able to make a positive contribution to patients’ oral health, appearance and often confidence in their smile after just a few visits.

I look forward to meeting you in the near future.

General and Cosmetic Dentistry

The most important and enjoyable aspect of dentistry for me is working with patients to develop “dental confidence” and satisfaction with the quality of life that comes from excellent dental care.

I graduated from the University of Otago in 2014 with distinction and have since gained a wide variety of experience in Auckland and the Hawke’s Bay. In returning to Tauranga I hope to make a meaningful contribution at Tauranga Dental House and look forward to meeting new patients.

I am committed to providing the best that modern dentistry has to offer and pride myself in a thorough and gentle approach. Over time I have developed a special interest in aesthetic and restorative dentistry, “minimally invasive” techniques and endodontics, which enables the conservation of damaged teeth. I also take great care in motivating patients to look after their diet and dental hygiene practices to prevent problems in the future.

Always of interest to me is the chance to develop my skills and knowledge through certified educational courses and self-directed reading. Aside from being enjoyable, this enables me to keep abreast of ongoing changes and to work with patients accordingly to deliver quality of care.

Tauranga is home for me, having grown up here. It will be great to spend more time with family and get involved in the community. In my spare time I enjoy outdoor pursuits such as bushwalks and other leisure activities, along with an interest in music and art.

Hana Rochford Barber

I am a born and bred Wellingtonian who graduated from the University of Otago in 2016. Since graduating have spent the past 3 years providing dental care in private practices in Katikati and Waihi. The Bay of Plenty has become my home and I am very excited to move to the beautiful city of Tauranga and provide care for this community.

As a dentist I am passionate about providing pain free, good evidence-based dentistry. My focus is to provide my patients with care in an environment they feel comfortable in. I’m happy to be a friendly face in what is usually a pretty uncomfortable situation. I have special interests in General Dentistry, Forensic Odontology and Endodontics.

Outside of work you can usually find me out with my dogs. I like to keep fit to help me unwind. Keeping healthy and exercising is very important to me and my favourite way to keep fit is wearing a pair of boxing gloves. I have recently taken up surfing and kayaking. I couldn’t ask for a better backyard to enjoy my free time in.

Hygienist – Donna Bishop

Having spent many years as a Dental Chairside Assistant in 2000 I decided to move my family to Dunedin for 2 years to complete my Diploma in Dental Hygiene at Otago University. Since graduating I have been working to assist individuals manage and maintain their Oral Health in my role as a Dental Hygienist here in Tauranga and it was with pleasure that I joined the team at TBK Dental in February 2017.

Maintaining high standards of patient care and clinical standards is important to me, with patient comfort a priority. Offering a gentle, pain free dental hygiene experience, as well as making sure you have an understanding of the disease process and interventions that can improve not only your oral health but overall health is all part of the service you will receive in your dental hygiene appointment.

Regular treatment with a Hygienist can maximise your oral health and minimise the possibility of dental problems developing.

If you are a new patient to the practice you will need to first see one of our Dentists to assess your overall dental health and then be referred to the Hygienist for treatment if required. Existing patients can make an appointment directly and I look forward to getting to know you and assisting you with your oral health routine.

On a personal note I am married with 2 teenage children and enjoy many of the things living in the Bay of Plenty offers with friends and family.
